The Externship is an 8-week virtual, asynchronous program that happens every summer from June to July. This one-of-a-kind learning experience offers students a chance to learn the art and craft of financial planning while seeing inside real client meetings. You’ll dive into the foundations of financial planning, learn from 50+ experts, and get access to industry-standard tools like Redtail, EncorEstates, and Asset-Map. 


Plus, Externship Finishers can earn 500 CFP Board standard pathway hours and 180 AFCPE® experience hours.

Students from over 200 colleges and universities participate in The Externship each summer.

The LIVE program runs from the first week of June to the end of July every summer, and Externs have the month of August to complete all required coursework if they want to:

EARN INTERNSHIP CREDIT

Use The Externship to fulfill internship or experiential learning requirements. We provide a syllabus, as well as support for internship approval & reporting.

EARN 500 CFP BOARD HOURS

Whether you’re majoring in financial planning or exploring future careers, The Externship can boost your summer learning (and your resume).
